With loads of help from devoted parents, staff and the local community, The Dorset School (TDS) served up not one, but two holiday seatings to celebrate Thanksgiving a week ahead of time. On Thursday, November 21st, students, younger siblings, parents, grandparents and teachers and staff all joined in at the school’s Thanksgiving Feast.
The first sitting was at 11 am, for diners in kindergarten through fourth grade along with their guests. Then at noon, the fifth to eighth graders and families had their turn at the tables. The school gymnasium served as the dining venue and was full-on fun with the usual turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and assorted other tastes and treats.
A morsel could not have been had without a number of heroes from the kitchen staff that pulled together to create a meal for some 300 or more. The Dorset Parent Volunteers set up the dinner tables donated by the United Church of Dorset, ladled the food for kids and their guests, and helped clean up when the meal was done. The centerpieces of gnarly pumpkins, squashes and gourds were donated by the Equinox Nursery and Mettowee Mint.
“It’s a thrill each year to celebrate this holiday together,” said a well-pleased TDS Principal Rosanna Moran. “This is simply a wonderful day at our school.”
