Maureen Chaffee, MEMS 5th grade teacher, has directed six staged readings from past selections of VT Reads novels. She has compiled a group of readers that consists of members of the Dorset Players, adults from the community, and students from area schools to portray the characters in the novel, Gather. Payton Conrad, MEMS 8th grader, will be reading as Sylvia.
This year’s selection, written by Vermont author Kenneth M. Cadow, has themes of rural life, resilience, class differences, addiction, housing and food insecurity, a deep relationship to the land, and the power of community.
The staged readings will take place at SVAC in the Yester House on November 1st at 6:30pm and on November 2nd at the Dorset Playhouse at 6:30pm. Recommended for ages 12 and up. There is no charge to attend.
